A professional carpet cleaner has revealed what happened when he had to deal with a dissatisfied customer.
In a video on TikTok with more than 800,000 views, Kvontay Devon (@kvontaydevon), a carpet cleaner from Mississippi, shared the interaction with a customer who was unhappy with the results of the service.
"This client said she wasn't satisfied," Devon shared on TikTok alongside the interaction.
"Is this how it was suppose to look? I didn't get a chance to see it as soon as you finished and my husband is saying it looks half done," the customer texted.
Devon responded, explaining that he had done his best given the condition of the carpet: "Yes mam, that's the best it was going to get considering the condition, I went over it several times as well. Could you specifically tell me what your issue is?"
The customer expressed dissatisfaction, particularly with the $200 charge: "It just doesn't look clean. Especially for the price of $200 and we really don't have money to waste."
Before long, tensions escalated as the customer demanded a refund, and Devon was stunned after spending a long time cleaning the carpet that was incredibly dirty before he arrived.
"I've been cleaning carpets for over seven years. My reaction when she asked for a refund was very perplexed because I was confused," Devon told Newsweek.
After sharing the interaction on TikTok, including before and after photographs of the job, it quickly gained viral attention as people shared their reactions in the comments.
"How does it even get like that?" questioned viewer Fabiola Nunez.
TikTok user Brittney_Pickles wrote, "How do the floors even get this dirty?! HOW."
"Yeah bro you should have charged way more than 200," user Andre2stax commented.
According to IBIS World, professional carpet cleaning is a big business in the United States, with a market size worth an estimated $6.9 billion in 2023.
The service can help revive soiled carpets, avoiding the potentially costly replacement of flooring. Using specialist equipment, techniques include steam cleaning, carpet shampooing and dry cleaning.
Other commenters on TikTok were stunned by the customer's attitude.
"It's the audacity for me," said viewer S.O.
TikToker Syd suggested that the customer actually owed more money for the service: "She wants a refund of her $200? No sir. She actually owes YOU $200 more for this incredible job."
Despite the unusual situation leaving Devon scratching his head, he explained that he had now let it go.
"As of now, I've moved past it, but I'm going to continue to be sure I get all pictures and videos as proof," he said.
