This week we've seen a German shepherd trying his paw at skateboarding and a sweet moment between a FedEx delivery driver and senior Labrador.

But we've also been collecting our favorite pet pictures and videos from our readers for our Newsweek Pet of the Week lineup.

This week's Pet of the Week is Chewbacca, a Labradoodle who lives in New York with his owner, Mark Metros, and has a serious nemesis in the form of his owner's leaf blower.

"I got him in Eden, New York," Metros told Newsweek. Chewbacca, affectionately nicknamed "Chewie," has a unique love/hate relationship with the leaf blower, which Metros captured in a hilarious video as the pup tries to bite the stream of air.

Metros explained that Chewie has an "uncontested love" that brings a sense of calm and happiness to his owner's life. "His kisses and he make me calm and relaxed being with him," he said.

Finalists

Our first finalist this week is Sadie, a 4-year-old red merle Australian shepherd who lives with owner Wendy Simmons.

"She's one of the most beautiful things you can lay eyes on," Simmons told Newsweek, praising Sadie's silver-blue eyes.

Her owner describes her as "the sweetest thing you can imagine" with a "calm gentle spirit."

The pair share everything together, even food, and Simmons said: "My whole life is this dog."

Our next finalist is Bonzai, an 8-year-old pit bull and mastiff mix who was adopted from the local Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) by owner Mirina Brown.

"I have never had a dog as smart and funny as Bonzai," Brown told Newsweek. His impressive intelligence is evident as he learns new tricks and commands quickly, sometimes mastering them in hours.

Bonzai now knows over 100 tricks, including chest bumps, high fives, playing dead, smiling, and many more. "He's such a cool dude who loves everyone and everything," said Brown.

Last but not least is Clooney, a dog that was rescued by Chris Strassel after the 2021 Hurricane Ida.

Clooney was flown from PALS Rescue in Summit, Mississippi, to the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown, Delaware, by Wings of Rescue, a charity that focuses on rescuing pets from disaster areas. When Strassel saw his picture, he knew he had to meet him, and went to adopt him the next morning.

"He had already tested heartworm positive and will have a children's picture book detailing this journey," Strassel told Newsweek. Thankfully, Clooney is now "100 percent healthy," and to pay their good fortune forward, Strassel and Clooney are trying to raise awareness about the number of dogs contracting heartworms.

Clooney, once "super shy and afraid of lots of things," has learned to overcome his fears with his owner's love and support.

Clooney's journey also inspired "Clooney's Coats," a project donating crocheted dog coats to veterinarians and rescues across the U.S.
