Sported by 00s icons like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, the classic style has been revived thanks to nostalgic lovers of the look, including Bella Hadid and Sydney Sweeney.
Both practical and pretty, using a thick headband can be a cute way to keep your hair out of your face while letting your locks stay loose, but getting the accessory to sit right can be challenging, especially if you're trying to give the nostalgic style an update for 2024.
If the accessory isn't sitting right on your head, there's an easy hack to ensure your headband stays in place while adding a 2024 twist, shared to TikTok by influencer Brigette Pheloung, aka @acquiredstyle, just using mini elastics.
Pheloung shared the surprisingly easy headband hack to TikTok, which proved popular as it gained 188,000 likes and 3.9 million views since being shared to the video platform on February 20.
Demonstrating the modern method for the nostalgic hairstyle, Pheloung began by bringing two small sections from her parting forward, securing with an elastic band to keep the sections separated whilst she puts her headband on. By keeping the hair forward, this ensures the headband sits behind the strands, rather than pushing back all her hair.
Next, to ensure both the headband and her hair will stay in place all day, Pheloung takes the two pieces from the front and splits them. Grabbing a piece from behind the headband from both sides of her head, she attaches the piece from one side of her head to the front strand on the same side and pulls tight to secure them together, repeating with the other strands.
Pulling the elastic tight both secures the headband in place by trapping it between the pieces of hair and gives the look its 2024 upgrade with a curtain bang effect in the front. For extra security, add bobby pins to hold the tied hair and headband to your head.
