A woman from Winnipeg, Canada, thought she got the deal of a lifetime off a local thrift store only to realize there was some very wrong with it upon further inspection.

In a video shared on TikTok in July, under the username @msfili, the poster, Ashlee, can be seen looking through bags at a local thrift store when, out of nowhere, she spots a red leather bag, which she thinks looks very familiar. Once she opens the bag, Ashlee immediately notices that the label says Hermès. It was a complete shock to her, given that the price on the bag was only around $9.

"It's a Hermès," she can be heard saying in the clip. "It has a little stain on the front, but it's not a big deal."

Hermès bags are deemed among the most luxurious in the world; their price starts at $10,000, and they can cost hundreds of thousands, depending on the model and the features of the bag.

That's why, when Ashlee found the bag at a thrift store and for such a low price, she couldn't believe her eyes. As it turns out, she shouldn't have.

"This bag unfortunately ended up being fake; it was real leather and felt like good quality," Ashlee told Newsweek, "But I have found authentic Louis Vuitton and Chanel bags at the thrift store previously."

Ashlee loves thrifting because, to her, every trip to the store feels like a treasure hunt.

"You never know what amazing things you can find! It's a great way to replenish your wardrobe and furnish your home on a budget, and it's an excellent way to earn some extra money by selling on Facebook Marketplace or eBay!"

Most users on TikTok thought the poster's new find was a Hermès Birkin or a Kelly, both among the most iconic models. They are not only among the most expensive in the world but are also so exclusive that you can't just go into the shop and buy either of them.

Madison Avenue Couture says that, to keep the exclusivity of these bags, the designer makes only a very few, so getting your hands on one can be quite a quest. There is usually a waiting list and lots of potential new owners competing to obtain a Hermès.

While you can get lucky and find one in store at the boutique, it may not be your preferred color, or material, but you may still have to go for it; that is unless you are a VIP customer and get personally invited to customize your very own piece.

British Vogue says that you must buy a vintage Hermès bag only from a reputable source. And it may take months or even years to get one from the store.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.1 million views and almost 20,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Ersi, commented: "Its a Birkin."
