Every couple wants to get the perfect wedding photos, but one bride and groom may have overlooked a key factor when they chose to have their pictures done on the beach.
Arthur Gillet, 29, was visiting Nazaré, Portugal, with some friends when he caught sight of the happy couple trying to capture some artistic wedding photos on the sandy beach. As they posed for the camera, they certainly didn't anticipate a huge wave to come in and wipe them out.
Gillet, of Liège, Belgium, could hardly believe it as he watched the scene unfold, telling Newsweek that they didn't seem to "measure the power of the waves." Especially factoring in the long bridal gown, which was soaked after.
He shared the footage on TikTok (@artrgl), joking that they "chose the wrong place" for the photoshoot. The video instantly went viral with over 174,200 views and more than 940 likes in just a matter of days.
Gillet said: "I was filming the waves, which were smaller than usual when we saw this newlywed couple being photographed. We found it so funny because the shoot looked quite complicated, and then suddenly this unfolded before our eyes.
"I was quite high up because I was filming from Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo, but the bride and groom and the guests who accompanied them seemed to be laughing about it. That should certainly make for some spontaneous wedding photos."
Gillet and his friends were initially at the beach to observe the ocean, as he said they are some of "the biggest waves in the world." While he probably wasn't expecting to see this happen instead, it will undoubtedly make a great vacation memory.
After bearing witness to this memorable moment for the couple, Gillet explained that he doesn't believe they had the ceremony on the beach, but just the photos.
He also noticed other people on the sand waiting for their moment too. Let's hope they managed to avoid the waves after seeing what happened to this couple.
The Social Media Reaction
Gillet has been amazed by the overwhelming response to his video online.
Since the post has gone viral on TikTok, he hopes the happy couple will see it and maybe even reveal how their wedding photos turned out.
He told Newsweek: "I've never seen something like this before, but after I decided to post it on TikTok I didn't expect it to be so successful. I'm searching for this couple now and I hope they laugh when they see this video. I really hope I can see the results of the photos one day too."
TikTok users were left in hysterics by the video, as one person commented: "At least you'll never forget the day."
Another TikToker added: "[A]t least they will have good memories."
While another comment reads: "I can't get over it."
