The real reason why girls go to the bathroom together has been revealed.

A video posted to TikTok by Emily (@emy_rosey) has gone viral after capturing a hilarious moment between friends as one of them tried to make her way out of a "locked" bathroom stall. Since the clip was posted on August 4, it has received more than 6.5 million views and over 761,000 likes.

"This is actually why girls always go to the bar bathroom together," Emily captioned the video. "She too locked in."

In the video, Emily peers over her bathroom stall to ask about her friend, Sarah, who seemed to be struggling.

"Sarah, what's going on?" she asked.

"It's locked," Sarah replied.

"Slide it to the left and then up," Emily said. After that didn't work, she switched tactics. "Slide it to the right and then up."

Sneakily, Emily zoomed into the debacle—and into the real latch for the bathroom door that stood opposite of what Sarah was tinkering with: the door hinge.

It was indeed confusing. The door latch, typically on the left side of the door, was on the right side of the door. Viewers were quick to point out this design deviation: "No, but I get her cause why the handle on the right and not the left," @yajaminn wrote.

Others could relate to the panic, but not necessarily to the support of a friend nearby.

"This happened to me once, I swear I panicked so much I started banging on the door for help," @miaracikova wrote. "Thank God nobody was there, because it didn't take me too long to figure it out, so I went home."

"I once had to crawl out of the DC Union Station bathroom stall and it was packed, like the line was full of people waiting, I was never so embarrassed," @dermitdemblubb posted.

One person even had to enlist the help of the bartender, only to realize she had made a simple mistake: "This happened to me, and I had to call my friend, and she had to get the bartender because it was a one room bathroom and then he had to talk me through it and I was pushing, not sliding," @boccalife commented.

Whether difficulty finding the door latch, pushing instead of pulling, or pushing instead of sliding, there is nothing quite like the panic at the prospect of a life stuck in a public bathroom. But, once you do make it, it is nice to be reminded of what's on the other side.

"The way you hyped her up when she finally opened the door," @manderz4short wrote. "This is true friendship!"

"She is beauty and brains!" Emily replied in the comments. "But this moment had to be captured."
