A typical camping trip for Adahm and family in their usual spot turned into one of the best vacations after they went home with a couple of extra furry friends.
Adahm has been going to this Canadian camping spot all her life. Being in the middle of a reservation, she's used to seeing dogs come and go. She refers to these canines as res dogs and farm dogs. They're well cared for but like to roam.
One dog became very comfortable at Adahm's campsite during their second night. She thought the dog would eventually move on, but that wasn't the case. The dog, now named Buttercup, slept under their camper, let them pet her and continued to stay close to the family.
They brought Buttercup under their wing until they figured out who she belonged to, but then the dog distribution system struck again.
"Next thing I know a puppy popped out under the stairs," Adahm told Newsweek.
Stunned and confused, Adahm didn't know what to do other than love the dogs like they were family for the time being. She shared the story in an August 7 TikTok video posted to the account @astraeaart and instantly, viewers became invested.
The surprise of not one, but two dogs took the internet by storm. The TikTok video reached over 1 million views and 57,600 likes as of Wednesday.
"BEST CAMPING TRIP EVER!!!! From now on, I'm bringing extra chairs with me for puppies to show up to," commented a viewer.
Another added: "They are TOO CUTE! And they seem very content with your family and your current dog. I'd say they're keepers!"
And keep them Adahm did, but not before finding the owners.
A woman contacted Adahm after seeing their first video about the two unexpected visitors. She offered to help connect the dogs to their families. While this helpful woman posted about the dog on local sites, Adahm checked with other campers in their campground and the next. Then Adahm went door to door, knocking and inquiring if anyone was missing their dog.
Adahm said Buttercup's owner was a senior man, who let the dog wander around since he could not afford to feed her with his three other dogs. Adahm offered to take her off his hands and he agreed.
As for the puppy, it took a little more than asking. Adahm left a note at the owner's door and three days later she got a text they were stuck out of town with car trouble, but they returned and were looking forward to being reunited with their puppy.
Adahm's head hung low. She grew attached to the puppy and didn't want to give her back. She offered money to the puppy's owner who eventually agreed and Adahm was back in the truck with the family's newest member.
"I can't believe this is real life," she said.
The family and their newest fur members returned home earlier Tuesday night. Buttercup, who is used to living outdoors, had hesitations about coming inside. Adahm patiently waited for her to inside and in the meantime, made a comfy bed for her and the puppy to sleep in. A few hours later they were all snuggling together inside, sleeping through the night.
As far as the puppy goes, she's already claimed her territory. Adahm said the puppy is "running the show" and that she's the "bossy one."
The best part is that Adahm's current dog welcomed both new canines with open paws. The three became "instant buds" playing together.
