With so many animals looking for a home, one shelter had to get creative when showing off an adorable dog urgently looking to be adopted.
The Animal Care Centers of NYC shared a video to their TikTok account @nyacc on August 13 showcasing three-year-old Pop, who is in need of "emergency placement."
In the clip, Pop shows how to be "demure and mindful" in front of potential adopters—reference to a TikTok trend playfully mocking the idea that women should be modest and conservative.
As a narration plays over the clip, Pop stares at the camera, showing "how I sit without jumping, how I will be in your kitchen while you're cooking, very polite and mindful."
Pop playfully rolls over on his belly as the narration describes him as "very cutesy," and praises him for only slightly ripping his toys, showing he would be "very easy to clean up after. Very demure, very mindful."
And as Pop hops up to get a better look at the person behind the camera, the narration states: "If you want to adopt a good boy like me, look for demure and mindful traits, just like mine."
TikTok users went wild for the video, which has racked up over 84,000 likes in just two days, as one commenter pleaded: "Pls someone adopt him he's perfect."
Many played along with the theme of the video, one saying: "His eyes are very demure very mindful," and another adding: "What a demure and mindful baby."
"Oh he's SO demure and mindful," yet another agreed.
The NYACC went on to describe Pop's other traits, with a volunteer describing him as "ridiculously cute" and "nonstop fun."
"His tail is just absolutely wiggling all over the place, and his butt shakes so much he almost hits himself in the face with it," they wrote.
Calling him their "ray of sunshine" and a "heartbreaker," they said Pop is reported to be playful with strangers, children and other dogs, who would do best in an energetic home "ready to keep the good times rolling."
Pop is one of millions of dogs across the U.S. looking for a forever home.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), around 3.1 million dogs enter shelters across the U.S. each year.
This is a decline from 3.9 million in 2011, the organization writes, and in positive news around 2 million dogs are adopted from shelters across the U.S. each year.
