Nine times out of 10, when a dog is offered a piece of food, they'll devour it within seconds. But one dog's unusual reaction quickly caught viewers off guard.
A small dog was resting under the table in a July 22 TikTok video posted by user @caneloupe. Hidden under her chin was a tiny tomato the owner gifted her as something to eat. But to the owner's surprise, the dog didn't eat the tomato like most would expect.
The dog instead kept a close eye on her new beloved tomato. She didn't keep watch for a few minutes or an hour. Instead, she protected that tomato like it was one of her puppies for two whole days. That tomato stayed by her side from sunrise to sundown. Nothing would break her new bond.
TikTok users quickly became obsessed with the dog's unexpected reaction, bringing in over 1.1 million views. The caption reads: "And she'll never be able to take care of her puppies."
When she felt like the owner was coming too close to her and her fruit, she went into mom mode. Tenderly licking and gently picking up the tomato, she moved to a new spot.
She then hurled her body back down to the ground and put the tomato back under her protective chin. Hopefully, the dog didn't go too hard to the ground and smash the tomato because that is a heartbreak no one wants to see, especially after they built a bond for two long days.

'Emotional Support Tomato'
The unusual, yet precious way the dog protected that tomato quickly became a fan favorite. The TikTok clip reached over 221,400 likes and 491 comments as of Thursday.
"She's so kind n gentle," pointed out a TikTok user, while a second wrote: "Her emotional support tomato."
Someone expressed jealousy for how much the dog looked after the tomato: "To be cared for, like this tiny tomato."
Turns out this isn't the only dog who takes care of food items. One user said: "My dog did the same thing and when he popped it he actually was so sad."
Another added: "My dog does this with blueberries."
