I recently visited Porto for the first time. Despite having been to nearby Quinta de la Rosa, the wine estate in the Douro Valley where my own Tonnix white port is made, on several occasions, I had never made it into the city.

During my stay, I sampled the local cuisine, including fish and seafood dishes, hearty stews (cozido à portuguesa), semi-soft cheeses and – of course – port wine.

Porto and the Douro boast some of the best seasonal food, all at affordable prices and within a vibrant culinary scene. These recipes are inspired by that trip, though I’ve used British ingredients where I can.
