In pet stories this week, we've seen a pair of cats recreating an iconic scene from The Lion King and a goldendoodle groom gone wrong after a husband demanded he could do it himself.

As well as viral pet stories, every week Newsweek creates a line-up of readers' much-loved pets for our Newsweek Pet of the Week. To see your pet in next week's line-up, follow the instructions at the end of this story to share your pet with us.

This week's Pet of the Week is Dipper, a 6-year-old rescue dog who lives with his owner Gigi Warner, who rescued him from a local shelter when he was just a year old.

Recently, while out with her grandson, Warner decided to pick up a treat for her beloved dog, buying Dipper a pup cup.

"As you can see by his eyes he was crazy, happy about it," Warner told Newsweek, sharing footage of the moment the excited pup refused to save any for later.

Pup cups are dog-friendly treats often made of whipped cream or soft-serve ice cream that are popular with owners and pets alike. Dipper's eyes lit up as he spotted the cup.

"Dipper loves the pup cups," Warner said. "It's not an every day thing. Sometimes he comes with me when I get a coffee—or I'll bring one home to him."

When he isn't enjoying a special pup cup treat, Dipper loves to play with Warner's grandkids. "He likes to go to my daughter's house and swim with the grandkids," she said. "I always say who ever had him before me had to be good to him. He's just a good boy. I'm a lucky dog owner."

Next up this week is Dotty, who lives with her owner Deb MacDonald. The charming feline is easily spotted thanks to three distinctive spots on her nose, under her chin and on her hind foot.

A big part of the family, MacDonald told Newsweek: "She does silly things to make me laugh. She loves boxes and has lots of toys."

When she isn't playing with toys, Dotty can often be found following her owner around the house.

Next up this week is Star, a 5-year-old service dog who has been supporting his owner Michael Burke since his workplace accident.

Despite starting out as a pet, Star has since been supporting her owner with partial paralysis and nerve damage, instinctively caring for him.

Living in a southern apartment complex with a pool, Michael has found a new favorite spot. Star, despite her fear of water, keeps a watchful eye from the shade.

Recently, Burke was teaching a neighbor's son to swim and when Star mistook the boy's cries of joy for distress, she jumped into the pool to help. "She thought he was drowning and needed help, so she leapt into action to try to help me save him," Burke told Newsweek.

"She was cocky for the next day or so, strutting around like she was a bad***, I didn't have the heart to tell her that she didn't save him from anything," the owner laughed.

Last but not least is Charlie Darwin, a rescue dog who lives with owner Nancy who didn't give her surname.

Nancy described Charlie as her "shadow," explaining that he has been a loyal companion since her husband Joe died of COVID-19 in 2020.

"I made him get this dog," she told Newsweek. "They were inseparable."

A large dog, Nancy said he is a gentle soul at heart. "He's got human eyes and gets very nervous without me."

The pair continue to navigate life without Joe, something Nancy said is still difficult: "He's still waiting for Joe to come home," she said.
