A couple have held a baby gender reveal with a twist, opting for a more intimate moment and the help of a Target cashier.

Jordan Benfatti shared a video of the way she and her husband decided to learn their child's sex, which involved picking out one outfit for a girl and one for a boy, then asking the store worker to read their gender results for them and bag up the relevant baby items.

The couple filmed themselves choosing the outfits in Target then introducing themselves to their unborn child and opening up the package at home, with no other guests. The clip has gone viral on TikTok, with 2.1 million views.

"This is your sign to do an intimate gender reveal," Benfatti captioned the video. The 25-year-old spoke to Newsweek about why they chose to do it this way, and why they appeared shocked when they learned the baby's gender.

Benfatti told Newsweek that she and her husband had decided early on that they wanted their families to wait until the birth to learn the sex of their child, but they wanted to know themselves in advance.

The couple were familiar with the cake reveal idea—where expecting parents cut into a cake, which is blue or pink inside, to discover the sex of their baby—but wanted something more lasting.

"I knew I wanted to do something where we could keep that memory forever and that our little baby would be able to keep," Benfatti said.

So, they went to Target and selected the two outfits. A cashier went into a backroom to open the envelope containing the gender results and to bag the correct outfit, along with a teddy bear wearing a pink and a blue ribbon that the couple had brought with them. They then had an adorable package to open in the comfort of their own home.

"I truly wouldn't have done it any other way and I would recommend this to anyone expecting a baby," Benfatti said. "The cashier at Target even thanked us for letting her be a part of this moment and said it was an honor, so as much as it made our day it made hers a bit better as well."

The big reveal

In the video, the parents-to-be both say their prediction is a boy and are shocked when they see just a pink ribbon on the teddy bear then the girl's outfit.

"My husband and I were shocked to no end when we saw the pink bow," Benfatti said. "We seriously both were so convinced it was going to be a boy, but we were both super-excited to see the pink."

The reveal hit a personal note as well—Benfatti has three younger sisters and knows all too well the joys of slumber parties and "girly things," she said.

"I was so excited to be able to do all those things again, but with my little girl," she added. "I am also so excited to watch my husband be the best girl dad ever."
