A young family have started up an unusual new morning routine after their toddler decided a terrifying mask was his favorite thing.

Madelyn Foss, 32, lives in California with her husband, their son, Trey, who is almost 2, and their newborn.

Life with two under 2 is always going to be busy, but Foss found a way to keep Trey happy and content in the mornings: by wearing a Halloween mask.

Describing her husband to Newsweek as a horror film lover, she explained he bought the mask about 13 years ago and would wear it to Halloween parties before they had children.

The mask is now Trey's favorite thing, as a viral video to Foss's TikTok account @madelynfoss0, with over 800,000 views and 129,000 likes, proves beyond a doubt.

It shows Trey playing with their dog before he glances at the camera and instantly grins before running over with a laugh and smile, to get a closer look.

In a voice-over, Foss says: "I'm going to start a series called 'what makes my toddler happy first thing in the morning.' Currently, it's this."

The camera then pans to Foss, gently holding her newborn while wearing a mask that looks similar to that worn in the horrifying Texas Chain Saw Massacre movies by the murderous Leatherface.

First released as an independent horror film in 1974, the Texas Chain Saw Massacre proved massively popular, and has gone on to spawn sequels, prequels, and a 2003 remake.

She asked in the caption: "Like why have [I] been having to wear this the last 20 minutes."

And TikTok users loved it, with one of hundreds of commenters writing: "The things moms put up with."

"Stop this is so funny, also the poor newborn," one laughed, as another joked: "That's what I look like first thing in the morning."

"Nothing could have prepared me for that," one said, and another wrote: "I wasn't expecting that at all. Thanks for the laugh."

One user shared: "My son was the same. Now he loves Halloween and horror films."

Speaking to Newsweek, Foss explained that Trey "found that in our costume box and kept asking my husband and I to put it on."

Foss admitted she was blown away by how many people have seen the new morning routine with her toddler, newborn and Leatherface.

"I literally thought it would just be me and my 50 followers on TikTok!"
