A father's thoughtful gift to his daughter ahead of her graduation has captured the hearts of millions of viewers online.
Mala Wade, a college student due to graduate at the end of this year, had shared that her father, Masa Tukuafu, had surprised her with a full piggy bank as she nears the end of her studies. The video, shared under @theblondetongan_ on September 26, shows Wade opening the large piggy bank that her father had spent years filling up for her.
As Wade emptied the piggy bank the night before a flight home, she found not just rolls of cash and coins but an orange note that left her overwhelmed. The touching moment has garnered more than 182,000 likes and widespread admiration among viewers on TikTok.
"My dad has always been my hero so receiving this piggy bank meant so much more to me than just what was inside," Wade, who was gifted the piggy bank on September 20, told Newsweek. "He has worked laborious jobs my whole life and I know he'd give me the world if he could, this piggy bank felt symbolic of that.
"I am beyond blessed to have such an amazing dad whom I owe everything to."
Viewers were able to see Wade holding the stuffed piggy bank, carefully pulling out its contents.
An overlaid text on the video read: "I graduate college at the end of this year so my dad surprised me with this piggy bank. I guess he's been collecting for the past while. The night before my flight home I began emptying it so that I could take the piggy bank with me on the airplane. When I came across this wad of orange note paper. On the last page it said 'for the days I was not there to take you for ice cream I save it for this day, love dad.'"
The heartwarming gesture has struck a chord with viewers online, many of whom praised Wade's father for his devotion and the emotional significance of the note.
"Sobbing, we must protect him at all costs," one viewer said.
Another added: "Some people were meant to be parents, what an incredible dad you have."
The note that Wade's father had left inside the piggy bank was particularly special for the student. Though the video only showed the last page, Wade explained that it was part of a longer letter.
"I would have shared the whole note he left inside but it felt too special so I opted to include just the last page in the video," she said. "I'm so happy to see that my post resonated with so many people."
Wade, both overwhelmed by the gift and busy prepping for the end of her studies, has not yet had time to count the money left for her.
"I don't know how much money was inside," she said.
The student had told viewers that she will "cherish" the piggy bank forever.
