President Joe Biden is facing even more pressure to quit the 2024 presidential race, with two key Democratic allies Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer reportedly privately telling him his time is up as he grapples with a Covid diagnosis and a resurgent Donald Trump going from strength to strength since surviving an assassination attempt.

The former House speaker and Senate majority leader have reportedly each held separate talks with the president in recent days, warning that he cannot beat Trump and risks dragging down the entire party in November.

While publicly Biden has vowed he will stay on the ticket, a source told CNN he is now “more receptive to calls of concern” about his prospects. Reporting by Axios and NOTUS suggests he could drop out as soon as this weekend.

On Wednesday, Biden was forced to pull out of a campaign stop in Las Vegas after he tested positive for the coronavirus.

The White House insists he is only experiencing “mild symptoms” but Biden was seen gingerly walking up the steps of Air Force One in Nevada.

The diagnosis came just hours after the president said he would bow out only “if doctors came to me and said you got this problem, that problem”.

Trump loses to younger Democrat in swing states, according to first major poll since shooting

Donald Trump was already leading President Joe Biden in several swing states but after the assassination attempt, a new poll shows the former president gaining even more ground – unless a younger Democrat replaces Biden.

A survey conducted by Emerson College Polling found that Trump holds a three-point lead or more over the president in seven key swing states – and most of those are an increase from polling conducted in March.

In Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin Trump is leading by three points, in Georgia by five, in Pennsylvania by six, in North Carolina by nine and in Arizona by 10.

The numbers are a bad sign for Biden who is already facing doubts about his ability to campaign and win the November election. Members of his own party have asked him to step aside and make room for a different, younger, candidate.

And the poll from Emerson supports that idea.

Montana Sen Jon Tester and Cali Rep Jim Costa are latest Dems to call on Biden to step aside

Senator Jon Tester and Representative Jim Costa are the latest Democrats calling for President Joe Biden to step aside.

Their calls come on the fourth night of the Republican National Convention just hours before Donald Trump is set to deliver his first speech since being shot at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

“[W]hile I appreciate his commitment to public service and our country, I believe President Biden should not seek re-election to another term,” Tester told the Daily Montanan.

Tester is only the second Democratic senator to call for Biden to withdraw from the 2024 election, joining Vermont Senator Peter Welch.

Meanwhile, Costa said Biden needs to “pass the torch” in a statement to CBS News.

“[F]or the good of the country, I think it is time for the President to pass the torch to the next generation to carry on the legacy he started,” the congressman said in a written statement. “Democrats need to unite and deliver their strongest team to the American people in this election.”

Et tu, Morning Joe?

Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough has joined the mounting calls for President Joe Biden to step aside in the 2024 race after his stumbling debate performance in June.

“It’s really incumbent on people that are around Joe Biden to step up at this point and help the president and help the man they love and do the right thing,” Scarborough said on his MSNBCmorning show Wednesday. Biden is reportedly a loyal viewer of the show.

“This is not going to end well if it continues to drag out,” he predicted.

Biden and Trump find themselves in opposite places from where they began

Eric Garcia writes:

The meltdown Democrats face and the unified front from Republicans shows that each candidate is in the exact opposite spot they were when they first became the mantle-bearers of their party.

ICYMI: Pelosi and Schumer separately tell Biden he can’t win

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate have apparently told President Joe Biden behind closed doors that he cannot win the 2024 presidential election and should step aside – a sign that internal support for Biden may be hitting a wall.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke with Biden face-to-face on Saturday and apparently made the case that it would be best if Biden dropped out of the presidential race, according to ABC News.

That arrives on the coattails of a CNN report that claimed Representative Nancy Pelosi, a senior Democrat, told the president over the phone that polling indicates he cannot beat Donald Trump come November.

Ariana Baio has the story.

What is Donald Trump’s net worth?

Donald Trump is having an expensive year.

Nearly seven months into 2024, the former president was found guilty of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records following his hush money trial. He was due to be sentenced on July 11 — just days before he was named the official GOP nominee at the Republican National Convention — though this has now been pushed back to September.

Depending on the outcome, he could be hit with hefty fines.

Here’s what we know about his net worth:

All the House and Senate Democrats who say it’s time for Biden to stand aside

Despite attempting to dig himself out of the political crisis that has engulfed him since his debate debacle, Joe Biden appears to become more entrenched with every swipe of the shovel.

Nineteen House Democrats and one senator have so far called on the president to drop out of the race for the White House, as of Thursday — with Obama, Pelosi, and other prominent Democrats privately expressing their doubts he can continue as the party’s candidate.

Could Democrats opt for a ‘blitz primary’ if Biden chooses to step aside?

The term “blitz primary” has been flying around Democratic circles as concerns about President Joe Biden’s fitness to serve a second term refuse to die down in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump last month.

Will Democrats use the nuclear option... an open convention?

President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate performance in Atlanta last month has opened the door in many Democratic minds that the best option might be to find a new nominee during an open convention.

After resolutely committing to staying in the race for several weeks after the debate, the president is reportedly beginning to open up to the notion that his time may have passed and that he has to step aside. Democratic leaders told Axios that he may drop out as soon as this weekend.

But the Biden campaign is still saying that the president isn’t going anywhere.

A growing number of Democratic members of Congress have publicly called on Biden to step aside, so how would a new nominee actually be chosen?
