Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty in absentia at his re-arraignment in Washington, DC, for the superseding indictment in the federal election interference case brought against him by special counsel Jack Smith.

Judge Tanya Chutkan said she would not let the election be a factor in setting deadlines as the case progresses toward a trial — which would likely fall sometime in 2025.

On Wednesday night, the former president sat for an hour-long town hall with Fox News’s Sean Hannity in Pennsylvania, bashing Democratic rival Kamala Harris at every turn and confusing her with Joe Biden less than a week before the two go head-to-head in the ABC News presidential debate.

Amid a flurry of praise and softball questions from Hannity, Trump slammed Harris’s record on illegal immigration and promised the “largest deportation” in American history if he returns to the White House, baselessly warning of another “1929-style depression” if the Democrat wins.

Earlier in the day, Harris unveiled more of her economic agenda in New Hampshire – promising tax relief for small businesses and argued that setting a “billionaire minimum tax” would make the tax code fairer.

Harris will spend the days leading up to the September 10 debate in key swing state Pennsylvania.

Harris outraises Trump by more than double in August

Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign raised more than $300m in the month of August, more than double the amount raised by Donald Trump’s campaign, which raised $130m.

Per NBC News:

Vice President Kamala Harris' political operation raised more than $300 million in the month of August — more than twice as much as former President Donald Trump's operation gathered in the same period — two sources familiar with the Harris fundraising numbers told NBC News.

The sources did not specify the exact fundraising haul, but the more than $300 million figure, which includes the campaign and related entities, signals that the breakneck pace of fundraising has not slowed since money began gushing in upon President Joe Biden’s July 21 announcement that he would step aside from seeking the Democratic nomination.

The next campaign finance disclosure deadline for Harris' campaign is Sept. 20.

...as Trump campaign adviser charged for working for sanctioned Russian media

The US government has charged a Russian-born US citizen and former adviser to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign with working for a sanctioned Russian state television network and laundering the proceeds.

Indictments announced Thursday by the Department of Justice allege that Dimitri Simes and his wife received over $1 million dollars and a personal car and driver in exchange for work they did for Russia’s Channel One. The state television network was sanctioned by the US in 2022 over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Simes, 76, and his wife, Anastasia Simes, have a home in Virginia and are believed to be in Russia.

Simes ran a think tank based in Washington that advised Trump’s campaign.

A second indictment alleges that Anastasia Simes, 55, received funds from sanctioned Russian oligarch Alexander Udodov. Udodov was sanctioned last year for his support for the Russian government.

If convicted of the charges, the two face a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Trump decries return of ‘Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax’ after DOJ reveals state media election interference

Donald Trump posted to Truth Social moments before going on stage in New Yor, decrying the return of the “Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax” following the federal law enforcement agencies seizing 32 Russian-backed websites that prosecutors say were designed to sow disinformation and discord ahead of 2024 elections and boost the former president’s campaign.

Separately, two employees of Russia’s state-controlled media network RT have been criminally charged with allegedly launching a $10 million propaganda scheme that enlisted popular right-wing social media influencers.

Here’s what Trump had to say today:

Comrade Kamala Harris and her Department of Justice are trying to interfere in and suppress the Election in favor of the Democrats by resurrecting the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and trying to say that Russia is trying to help me, which is absolutely FALSE. In fact, President Putin would much rather see Comrade Kamala Harris in Office, as he strongly said just this morning. Why aren’t they looking into Iran, China, & other Countries and, more importantly, why aren’t they looking at Marc Elias, Mark Pomerantz, the relationship between Lisa Monaco to Andrew Weissmann, CREW, and all of the other Enemies of the People that had such an effect on the 2020 Election, and are trying to Rig and Steal the 2024 Presidential Election. So ironic watching Lisa Monaco, a figurehead for Weissmann and the group of Radical Left Lunatics who had so much to do with the original Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and now she is at it again, leading A.G. Merrick Garland down an empty and Country destroying path…

…We are fighting true COMMUNISM in this Country. We have to save our Elections, our System of Justice, our Constitution, and our FREEDOM, but that can only be done after we win BIG on November 5th, and proceed to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

And here’s Alex Woodward’s report on yesterday’s announcement:

Internal memo leaked to media says Trump staffers threatened with firing... over media leaks

Donald Trump‘s campaign staffers face losing their jobs if they speak to the media before the election in November, according to a leaked email from his co-campaign managers.

In the email, seen by NCB News, Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles reportedly wrote that the Republican campaign team has “done a great job in preventing leaks”, because “everyone knows what the policy is and what we expect from everyone”.

Myriam Page has the story.

BREAKING: Hunter Biden to change plea in federal tax case

Hunter Biden will plead guilty in his federal tax case. Jury selection was scheduled to begin today at the court in Los Angeles.

Biden and his attorneys met with US District Judge Mark Scarsi shortly before proceedings were set to get underway.

The president’s son was indicted in December on three felony and six misdemeanor counts alleging that he failed to pay his taxes during a period when he says, he was in the throes of drug addiction, as well as after he got sober.

If the plea is accepted by the judge, it will spare Biden a potentially embarrassing public trial with multiple witnesses likely to tell salacious stories of his drug use.

Per NBC News:

Hunter Biden intends to change his plea in the federal tax-related charges against him, his attorney Abbe Lowell said on Thursday.

The reversal was made shortly before jury selection was expected to begin in what would have been Biden’s second trial this year. The only surviving son of President Joe Biden, Hunter Biden is the first offspring of a sitting president to stand trial on criminal charges.

Shortly after the announcement, the court went into recess.

The conditions of the plea were not immediately disclosed nor whether the judge will accept his attempt to avoid a trial and move straight to sentencing.
