A pet owner from Kent, in the South of England, recently walked into her bedroom to find something very unusual on her bed.
In a post shared on Reddit in May, Kelly (u/trixy_treat) revealed that as she glanced to check on her napping cats, she quickly noticed that four of them were lying on the bed—even though she only owns three cats.
"My cats are Pancake, the Tortie and her 2 children; Oreo, the tabby, and Quinn the tuxedo," Kelly told Newsweek.
"Bluey lives next door and is roughly the same age as Quinn; 18 months or so. They made fast friends despite my cats having a habit of disliking other cats in the past."
She explained that Bluey appears at her kitchen window midmorning most days and meows, and then her cats, Oreo and Quinn go out and play with her in the front garden or the green/playpark at the front of their house.
"They come in for water and a nap, and then Bluey goes home at the end of the day. They have a toddler and a large dog next door, so I think he likes the peace and quiet here," Kelly said.
"He fits in so well and it's adorable that he's so happy going between the two houses and that they seem to be such good friends."
Pet advice website Catster explains that while not all cats are open to interacting with other felines, cat friendship is not impossible.
Although cats are naturally solitary and aloof, they can form strong bonds with other animals, or people. While some may bond quickly, for others, it can take a longer time, usually between 8 and 12 months.
However, some cats may not do well with other felines, and in that case, it is completely fine for them to have no feline friends.
The video quickly went viral on Reddit, receiving over 14,000 upvotes and 307 comments so far.
One user, u/BlackJeepW1, commented: "Well to be fair I guess you needed one for every corner of the bed. The bonus cat is just helping out."
Redditor u/BruceHoratioWayne said: "Cat: 'I'll pretend to be like the others and the human won't know the difference.'"
"I wish my cats were that accepting of strange cats," u/Rnilbog commented. "We've been fostering a stray and trying to get her adopted, and we have to keep them separated because our cats hate her."
