A Taylor Swift fan has gained viral attention after she shared the emotional moment she threw away a promise ring from her ex-boyfriend during the singer's Eras Tour concert.

During Swift's performance of "my tears ricochet," a song from the artist's eighth studio album Folklore, 23-year-old Alannah Czymmeck from Hamburg, Germany, took off the ring and threw it into the crowd.

"The ring was a gift from my ex-boyfriend, a promise ring," Czymmeck told Newsweek. "I took the ring off my left ring finger during 'my tears ricochet,' which is a song I really related to during my relationship. I knew I needed to leave but couldn't build up the courage to do so."

Having ended the relationship about a year ago, Czymmeck saw the performance as the perfect moment for closure. "As the song started to play, I spontaneously decided to throw my ring away, thinking it would give me peace and closure. I acted out of emotion and grief," she said.

In an interview as part of the Disney+ documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, Swift spoke about "my tears ricochet": "It's definitely one of the saddest songs on the album," she said. "It's a song about karma; it's a song about greed. It's a song about how somebody could be your best friend, and your companion, and your most-trusted person in your life, and then they could go and become your worst enemy who knows how to hurt you, because they were once your most-trusted person."

Czymmeck isn't alone in relating the song to her breakup, either. Swift herself said: "It does remind me of people going through a divorce and having that person that they swore to be with forever then become the person that they spend most of their time talking s*** about."

Amazingly, despite tossing the ring completely at random, Czymmeck, who was seated further back from the stage, found out where it wound up. "It landed down in the pit on the floor next to a fan who reached out to me and told me that they had found it and gave it to a security guard at the Volksparkstadion. So it thankfully didn't hit anyone," she said.

The moment was captured on video and shared under the username @_alannahhwl on TikTok in late July, where it quickly went viral, amassing more than 3.5 million views. The clip drew a wave of comments, with many users expressing their support and admiration for Czymmeck's cathartic act, and some questioning the safety of throwing the ring.

"I love this, but I would be TERRIFIED it would hit someone and hurt them," commented one user.

There have been previous warnings about throwing items at concerts and the dangers it can pose. In 2023, during her Buenos Aires concert, Taylor Swift paused her show to warn fans not to throw things on stage. "It really freaks me out," the singer said. "Communication means having gentle, healthy boundaries. It really freaks me out when stuff gets thrown on the stage, because, if it's on the stage, then a dancer can trip on it."

After the action, Czymmeck said that she didn't think before she threw the ring and wouldn't encourage it for safety reasons. "I completely understand that this could have happened, and I want to say that I am deeply sorry for not thinking too much about the consequences as I threw the ring," she said. "I should've thought about it first before I acted out of my emotions."

However, since nobody was hurt, other commenters on TikTok shared their love and support for Czymmeck.

"The ring you threw just landed in front of someone who's gonna take that as a sign. Proud of you. Proud for the person who found the ring. Take the sign," posted one commenter.

Another wrote: "When people wonder why we love Taylor so much, show them this video! Her music is literal therapy."

"I feel very overwhelmed by the reaction online. There are some very nice and genuine people out there who left all kinds of lovely comments under my TikTok. I never thought that it would reach so many people around the world," Czymmeck said.
