The bond between an owner and their pet is a special one, but one dog has truly earned the "best friend" title.

Ludo, a husky and Akita mix, went viral on TikTok this week after his owners shared some touching clips of his nightly routine.

In the video, Ludo starts by checking on his owners' son, Jaxon, getting up close and personal to make sure he's asleep.

The text overlay reads: "You okay little dude?" Once Ludo has the reassurance that little Jaxon is sound asleep, he lies down by the door of his bedroom.

Owner Tia Layock told Newsweek that her dog Ludo first started making this part of his bedtime routine when their son first transitioned to his own room. Ludo's owner, Tia Layock, explained that the tradition began when her son made the move to his own bedroom about two years ago.

As Jaxon grew, so did Ludo's nightly routine as he continued to check on Jaxon, now 4, and his younger sibling, Bonnie, who is 2.

"We thought it was super sweet of him to be going into the room and up to the beds checking on the kids; sometimes even giving them a little nudge with his nose or a kiss," the mom of two told Newsweek.

Ludo's nightly routine involves accompanying Layock or her partner as they make their rounds to check on the children before heading to bed.

Layock (who goes by @8pawsand4littlefeet) captioned her viral clip "No bond like a dog and his kid," and it's garnered over 20 million views since it was posted on August 4.

Hundreds of adoring social media users left comments for Layock, with some calling Ludo the "protector" of the family.

"You have a home filled with presence, care respect and belonging," a TikTok user commented, while another wrote: "Our staffy always checks on our daughter when she talks in her sleep,"

It turns out that it's not just dogs who like to ensure their owners are okay. "My cat is doing the same every night and sleeps in [the] children's room on the floor," @lilianalavli commented.

One user who shared that her sons grew up with furry friends wrote: "We don't deserve dogs. Teared up at this."

An inquisitive user wondered if Ludo was trained to do this and Layock revealed in the comments that his instinct to check on the children came "naturally."

"We'd obviously check on the kids before going to sleep ourselves and he just started to join in," she wrote.
