At just 2 years old, King was rehomed and faced the challenge of adapting to a new environment. "He had to get used to his new environment but has adjusted well and keeps me motivated. He's my pride and joy," Gonzales told Newsweek.

One of King's favorite activities is watching television with his owner, particularly episodes of America's Funniest Home Videos that feature pets. "He loves to watch TV with me," Gonzales said, adding that King's enthusiasm for the show brings joy to their household.

"He came with the name, Oliver Twist, since he was an orphan," Schroder told Newsweek, recounting how they added "Presley" to his name because he was rescued from Tennessee. Also, he "ain't nuthin' but a hound dog."

Schroder's journey with Oliver began over 16 years ago when they started fostering him. But it quickly became clear that Oliver was destined to be a permanent member of the family. "We had to keep him since we fell hopelessly in love with him," Schroder recalled, highlighting the deep bond that formed almost instantly.

Even after his passing, Oliver's memory continues to warm Pamela's heart.

Our next finalist this week is Princess Bear, a "beautiful, sweet, lovely, spoiled, precious, boujee Persian and Munchkin mix cat" owned by Lisa Marie Gruttadauria-Thomas.

At just 19 months old, Princess Bear has already shown her strong personality and refined tastes. Recently, she gave her owner quite a scare by suddenly refusing to eat her usual soft wet food. "I was getting really scared," Gruttadauria-Thomas said, concerned about her beloved pet's sudden change in behavior.

Thankfully, when her husband suggested changing her food to a different brand, Princess Bear quickly accepted the new dish—that is, until she changed her mind again, demanding the first brand back.

Princess Bear's antics bring joy and laughter to the family, ensuring that there is never a dull moment.

Last but not least this week is Oscar, a lurcher who has been a huge part of owner Di Bowker's family for the last 10 years.

Now aged 12, Oscar continues to bring joy and comfort as a therapy dog in the "Read 2 Dog" program with Pets as Therapy. "He adores children and they love him," Bowker told Newsweek.

Every Christmas and Halloween, Oscar dons a new costume to entertain the children. Over the years, he has transformed into a snowman, Count "Dogula," a spider, a ghost, and Santa. The excitement of guessing Oscar's next outfit has become a cherished tradition for the children.

Bowker said that Oscar's work as a therapy dog gives her lots of joy. "He is a very special boy who has helped many children over the years," she said proudly.
