A dachshund's way of letting her owner know that she wants treats has delighted viewers online.

Maple, a miniature dachshund, was captured whining loudly at her owner, as a means to getting more food. Her owner shared the moment to Instagram under the username @mellow_maple.minidachshund on August 2, where it has since amassed more than 74,000 likes. The short clip, which has left viewers online in stitches, highlights how food-motivated the breed are.

Viewers were able to see Maple staring into her owner's camera lens while letting out loud and high-pitched whines, as if to plead for more snacks. "Sound on, I am buying your sympathy, so that mama will give me more treat," her owner captioned the post.

Dachshunds are renowned for their strong food motivation and exceptional sense of smell—attributes that are deeply rooted in their heritage as hunting dogs.

With their long noses, these hounds possess an extraordinary olfactory capability, allowing them to detect scents far more effectively than many other breeds. This keen sense of smell, coupled with their insatiable appetite, makes dachshunds particularly driven by food rewards.

Whether it is for training or simply following a trail, these small but determined dogs can become incredibly focused and persistent when food is involved. It makes them both amusing and effective in various scent-related tasks or when they are after a snack.

The post has been watched more than 1.5 million times and has led to an outpouring of amused comments by viewers.

"Give that sweet baby angel anything they want," one user, @kirstyn39, posted.

Another, @icyd11, added: "Who could say no to such a little sweetie."

"Did [her] eyes just double in size in one sec?! And look at the puffy cheeks. Oh [she] is good at unleashing [her] tricks lol [laugh out loud]. I can't handle the cuteness," a third user, @kimthescorpio, shared.

"She's using all her charm," another, @whalien78.trades, commented.

Newsweek reached out to @mellow_maple.minidachshund for more information via TikTok. The dachshund lives with her sibling, another miniature dachshund named Mellow. The owner has amassed more than 60,000 followers on the Instagram account that shares their daily antics.
